Running Away Multisport

I usually purchase all of my running goodies at the Pipers Alley Fleet Fleet in Old Town mostly because my sister-in-law works there but also because they’re really a top-notch operation (especially when it comes to shoe fitting). God knows I spend waaaaay too much money there. I did come across a store in Bucktown, though, that might be worth checking out. Although I’ve never been there personally, their new location is apparently bigger than ever. It seems there’s a trend here…

Running Away Multisport is located at 1634 West North Avenue. They’re also one of the sponsors for the Bucktown 5k in October.

  • Running Away Multisport is actually the group that puts the Bucktown 5k on each year. Great store with very knowledgeable staff and a fun attitude.

  • Buy somewhere else. They will push you to get something expensive even if it doesnt work for you, then you wont be able to return it. Friendly and knowledgeable only to make you buy something. Get your stuff online if you dont need help and go somewhere else if you need guidance.

  • As a 4-time marathoner and former employee (from when the store first opened and was located on Damen Avenue), I’m surprised to have read the review above. I sold running shoes at Running Away for more than two years and never pushed anyone towards a more expensive product, nor did any of my co-workers. The staff at R.A. prided itself on helping runners find the best fitting shoe for their running gait. It was and is a store that exists for the runner and for the customer.

I suspect that the post above was a result of one bad experience or a misinterpreation of the sales person’s advice. I realize that one can purchase running shoes for less money online, but with an online purchase, you don’t always get the expertise that comes from a seasoned runner.
